“We had a great week long stay at the Smiling Hill Farmhouse! The house is updated with modern comforts in the country but still close enough to grocery shopping and take-out restaurants. A great place for social distancing during the Covid pandemic. We had beautiful cool fall weather all week long to sit on the porch swing and lounge in the hammock. We also enjoyed the close access to 3 points along the Virginia Creeper trail. No need for shuttles, just park and bike or walk everyday for miles through the beautiful woods. Smiling Hill Farmhouse is as warm and inviting as the front porch and swing. From the moment you open the front door and enter the entrance hall you feel a sense of peace. A modern open floor plan with a comfortable country style. The well maintained flooring and the color palette were perfect. A spacious interior with 3 bedrooms and a sleeping porch. 1 queen with private bath. A second queen bedroom with twin bed and third bedroom with queen both bedrooms sharing a hall bath; a half bath is provided downstairs off the laundry area and living area. The home was a mirror image of the photos depicted on Evolve and on the Smiling Hill Farmhouse website. Our host family reached out to us prior to arrival and was very understanding with regards to our late arrival and the home was well lit. Similarly, upon entering the kitchen we were provided chocolate chips cookies, which melted in your mouth and homemade sourdough bread; which at first glance, we thought to be an attractive display. The House sits off the Road on a hill with a long drive way. Most importantly though – have fun! My sisters and I had an awesome time and hope to make it an annual visit and base camp for additional ventures and sightseeing. Our guest contact was a blessing and easy to work with both prior to and following our visit.”

“I’m so glad you provided perfect weather for our visit–we spent lots of time on the porch. The furnishings are comfortable and attractive, but the best part is the new parking area! It is so much easier to unload and load now that we don’t have to walk up umpteen steps or across a hill side. One of my friends, who has health problems, entered through the patio door each time so that he had no steps to climb at all. We are already looking forward to our next visit.”

This home and location was perfect for a weekend getaway for my sister, mom, and me. We just loved the outside of the house for its big porch, lovely hardscaped walk ways and garden wall that lit up at night. We sat on the porch as much as possible to enjoy the breeze, look over the mountains, the cows, and the fireflies at night. Inside, we found a comfortable living room to lounge around, a full kitchen with extras you rarely find in a rental, and a kitchen table we could do crafts on. I cannot say enough about the comfortable bedrooms and beds!! Great updated bathrooms with wonderful water pressure. You would NEVER know that this home is over 100 years old. Downtown Abingdon is just down the road in one direction and the lake the other direction. The homeowners were fantastic! We will be back again and again!
